Initially, as a newcomer in America, you must grasp that your daily routines will significantly impact your journey. Given that you are not currently employed, direct your attention toward being helpful where you presently reside. Begin by cultivating the healthy habit of being a valuable presence in your host’s home, which will later extend to your host country. This mindset is a cornerstone of success in America. Here are some basic reminders:

1. Don’t stay in bed after 8 am at your current place.

2. Always clean the bathroom and do the dishes after use.

3. Cook, clean while your host is out, and help with homework for kids, if needed.

4. Avoid alcohol for now; you need a clear head at all times.

5. Follow your host’s house rules.

6. Don’t assume you can enjoy amenities like TV or the pool, unless invited. Never get too comfortable.

7. Avoid speaking negatively about anyone to your host, even their worst enemy. Also, avoid discussing politics or religion unless you’re certain you share the same values.

8. Never accept pocket money from your host.

9. Reframe your perspective to survival mode.

10. Share any benefits received with the household.

11. Remember, concentrate on what needs to be done now, not what you’d love to do.

Next, you must be aware of the priorities that require your immediate attention:

1. Comply with all immigration and healthcare requirements: Ensure you complete all necessary documentation and medical tests.

2. Apply for a job permit and any available benefits for which you qualify.

3. Inquire about technical course programs, such as electricity or refrigeration, construction, and Nurse aid available in your area.

4. Translate and validate any credentials, certificates, or diplomas you bring with you.

5. Take advantage of the local library by obtaining a library card and asking about free English classes.

6. If you have a university diploma and work experience, consider acquiring certificates that can enhance your job prospects instead of immediately contemplating a return to school or a career change. Seek advice from friends or LinkedIn connections in your field.

7. If you have a background in healthcare, explore diverse employment opportunities. Nurses, for example, can take nursing exams without returning to school, while MDs, in addition to USMLE, can explore roles like medical assistants to start or pursue certificates for positions such as CDI, case or care management, and medical affairs in the pharmaceutical industry.

8. You will need to craft a straightforward and effective resume. Emphasize your years of experience in doing a specific task over your various fancy previous job titles and diplomas. Keep it simple.

Additionally, remember that once you receive your work permit, you are not limited to the state where you first arrived. Seek opportunities in any state, as some jobs may offer relocation assistance. It’s wise not to focus on big cities; consider less competitive areas to increase your chances of success. The key is to prioritize establishing a foothold in the job market over pursuing high pay and a lifestyle right away…… Click to read Part — 3
