Guilt and Love

-A poem (A parent’s voice)

Echoes of cries, in mind they ring,
As off you go, hurt, in punishment’s cling,
Guilt and regret, a heavy heart bears,
Discipline, alas, must have its shares.

Dear Son, I love you, with all that’s true,
But my prince, discipline must come through,
Wish to take away, the pain you feel,
Make amends; that’s my heart’s deal.

Tears in your eyes, my own heartache,
But love for you, shall never, ever break,
Though caused you harm, in discipline’s name,
Protection, always, from harm’s claim.

Hold you close, dry the tears you cry,
Chase away doubts, fears, till they all die,
Punished you, yes, but love for you, pure,
Guiding you, always, forevermore.
